ETERNAL SHADOW is NOW AVAILABLE!
A lifetime goal of mine is now complete. Eternal Shadow, the first novel I’ve ever written to completion, is now published and available for the world to read.
Just… wow. I still can’t believe it.
The Journey to Publication, In a Nutshell
Work began on Eternal Shadow on February 17, 2017 - back when its title was The Basking. Thanks to my wife - seriously, without her this book would’ve taken years to finish - I managed to complete the first draft in one year. It would be another couple of months before the novel’s multiple revisions and edits (eight major revisions which trimmed the length down by over 40k words!) were completed.
It wasn’t long before I really became acquainted with the awesomeness that is the writing community. I’ve met so many awesome people since I began this journey, from teachers and lawyers to mathematicians and engineers - all writing their own works, sharing their pain and successes. It was through the Twitter community that I met my critique partner, someone that I’m proud to say is now one of my best friends - and a brutal critic of my work. The best of both worlds!
A large chunk of time, when not connecting with other writers, was spent shopping the manuscript around. From meeting agents at SFWC and WorldCon to pinging them on Twitter and tracking them on QueryTracker, I can happily say that I have a sizable stack of rejection emails of varying sizes and thoughtfulness.
After a year of speaking with a handful of agents in person and receiving rejections from countless more, I finally made the decision to self-publish on June 7, 2019. I didn’t come to it lightly, but it’s a direction I’m very satisfied with. The moment I moved toward self-publishing, major decisions came fast and hard, from having my cover designed to locking in what the final title would be (I put the latter to a vote among my alpha readers, beta readers, and CP). When book cover and typesetting designs went to print for testing, even more challenging decisions came to the table.
But I kept going - especially when I had my release date finalized and set in stone. Knowing November 9th would be the day made every decision weigh that much more in my heart and mind.
And now…
Eternal Shadow can now be in your hands!
AHHHH!
